Wolff’s Stadium Talks With San Jose State Univ. Reportedly Falling Apart

A’s Owner Lew Wolff’s negotiations to build a stadium on the campus of San Jose State Univ. (SJSU) to house an MLS team and the school’s football team “are deteriorating,” according to a source cited by Witt & Wilner of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. An expected meeting between Wolff and SJSU President Don Kassing “later this week could be the final one.” Sources said that the school “wants to earn about $6[M] guaranteed annually from the stadium deal.” But Wolff, who would operate the stadium, “has offered substantially less — several sources pegged the figure at $1[M] annually — plus a split of future stadium revenues.” Kassing: “We’re at a stalemate. We haven’t reached an understanding about a revenue split.” Wolff: “We’re hoping to work it out but we’re not quite there yet” (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 4/18).
