The Yankees’ “Welcome Home Dinner” in midtown Manhattan on Monday night netted
about $1M for the Yankees Foundation. In N.Y., Anthony McCarron reports Yankees
General Partner STEVE SWINDAL, who was served divorce papers by Owner GEORGE
STEINBRENNER’s daughter, JENNIFER, “was not invited to the dinner.”
Steinbrenner’s son, HANK, did not attend, but his son, HAL, and
son-in-law, Yankees Senior VP FELIX LOPEZ, were in attendance, along with
Yankees President RANDY LEVINE, COO LONN TROST and GM BRIAN CASHMAN
(N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/4).
START IT UP: ARNOLD PALMER, a four-time winner of The Masters who
played the event for 50 straight years from ’55-’04, will serve as honorary starter
at this year’s event. Former starters include JOCK HUTCHISON, FRED MCLEOD,
BYRON NELSON, GENE SARAZEN, KEN VENTURI and SAM SNEAD,
who was the last honorary starter in ’02 (Mult., 4/4)....Free agent P
ROGER CLEMENS will serve as grand marshal for the Champ Car Grand Prix of
Houston on April 22 (Grand Prix of Houston).
NAMES: Basketball analyst DEBBIE ANTONELLI was named the ’07 winner of the Women Basketball Coaches Association’s Mel Greenberg Media Award, given annually to a member of the media who best displays a commitment to women’s basketball and advancing the role of the media in the women’s game (WBCA)....NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reported LARRY DAVID, co-creator of “Seinfeld” and HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” has been “offering his viewpoint to Jets (GM) MICHAEL TANNENBAUM and Jets head coach ERIC MANGINI.” Schefter: “Last year, Larry David cold-called Tannenbaum — out of nowhere — to recommend that the Jets trade up to draft VINCE YOUNG. Obviously, Tannenbaum ignored Larry David, but the Jets brass was in (L.A.) this past weekend to do some scouting and while they were there they did meet with Larry David” (“NFL Total Access,” NFL Network, 4/3)....HUGH HEFNER and a reported 20 Playboy Bunnies filmed scenes for E!’s “The Girls Next Door” during a visit to Lakers Owner JERRY BUSS’ box for Lakers-Nuggets last night (L.A.
