Penguins Name David
Morehouse President |
The Penguins named
DAVID MOREHOUSE President after he spent more than two
years consulting the team in its effort for a new arena, according to Shelly Anderson
of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE. Morehouse will be “heavily involved with the redevelopment
of the Mellon Arena site, governmental affairs and corporate relations.” He will
also be responsible for ticket sales, marketing, corporate sales and communications
departments.
KEN SAWYER, who had served as President & CEO since Owner
MARIO LEMIEUX stepped down as CEO more than a year ago, will remain CEO.
Morehouse served as a senior advisor to U.S. Sen.
JOHN KERRY’s (D-MA) ’04
presidential campaign and as Kerry’s traveling Chief of Staff. He worked in the
White House under
BILL CLINTON and at the Pentagon and on Capitol Hill
for much of the ‘90s and served as senior counselor to VP
AL GORE from
’99-’01. Morehouse: “I always thought I’d be working for a president, but not
of a major sports franchise. But this is much better.” Anderson notes the Penguins
“pared their organization a few years ago in anticipation” of the ’04-05 lockout,
but they are “ready to branch out again.” Morehouse: “We’re going to have to build
this arena. We’re going to have to expand our presence in the community and the
corporate community” (
PITTSBURGH
POST-GAZETTE, 4/5).
