USGA Approves Nike Sumo2 Replacement Drivers

The USGA has approved new drivers from Nike to replace Sumo2 drivers, which were
recalled by the company last week when it was discovered that they did not meet
the organization’s regulations (

Tripp Mickle reports that following a four-agency review, the USOC has selected
mcgarrybowen as its ad agency. The firm will be in charge of brand positioning,
logo and tag line development and will also be responsible for designing “traditional
and nontraditional” creative ads. The agency may also create theme music for the
USOC. mcgarrybowen CCO Gordon Bowen served as creative adviser for the ’02 Salt
Lake City Games (

3/19 issue).... Univ. of North Florida professor Paul Mason found that
“people and businesses spent $980[M] more in area retail sales since January 2005
than they were on track to spend before then.” Jacksonville hosted the Super Bowl
in ’05. Mason: “We can’t and don’t contend that it’s all Super Bowl-related. [But]
to conclude that the shift in the trend had nothing to do with the Super Bowl
would be totally erroneous” (

owns W, Westin and Sheraton, has become the “latest travel company to commit to
online auctions exclusively for loyalty club members,” and ringside seats at an
Oscar de la Hoya bout with tickets to an after-party are among the items being
auctioned. InterContinental, which owns Holiday Inn, Staybridge Suites and Crowne
Plaza, has auctioned the right to throw the first pitch at the ’06 World Series,
a chance to have a Holiday Inn-sponsored NASCAR Chevy exhibited outside of a winner’s
house, and tickets to The Masters (
