FULL HOUSE? With Sirius and XM looking to merge, industry experts said that both companies “are straining their systems’ transmission capacities even before they try to add each other’s content.” Both providers “typically drop channels when adding new ones, suggesting a filled-to-the-top transmitting system.” Sirius recently dropped C-SPAN Radio because C-SPAN “objected to being bumped off the network when Sirius wanted to air sports events.” Sirius Exec VP David Frear said, “At any given time, we use all the spectrum [allotted to the company].” But he suggested that the number of channels “can increase, depending on how the spectrum is handled” (WASHINGTON POST, 3/19).
PEOPLE & PERSONALITIES: MSG Knicks analyst Walt Frazier appears, “with women hanging all over him,” in a series of subway ads for Empire City at Yonkers Raceway, which houses 4,000 video gaming machines. In N.Y., Bob Raissman notes his participation “had to be blessed” by MSG. Meanwhile, Yankees radio broadcasters John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman have signed new five-year deals through 2011 (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/18).
