Arch Madness: McDonald’s Signs On As Ohio State Sponsor

McDonald’s Replacing Wendy’s As
Sponsor Of Ohio State Athletics
McDonald’s has signed a five-year, $2.5M deal to sponsor Ohio State Univ. (OSU) athletics, according to Barnet Wolf of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. The McDonalds’s brand will replace Wendy’s on the scoreboards and other areas in Ohio Stadium and the Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center. Also, McDonald’s restaurants across central Ohio will sell tickets to OSU’s April 21 spring football game, marking the first time tickets will be available off campus. Ohio-based Wendy’s, which had been an OSU sponsor for “more than two decades,” decided to drop its sponsorship with the school “under pressure from activist investors to reduce costs and improve its financial performance.” The company has also ended its sponsorships of the Blue Jackets and a local LPGA tournament (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 3/14).
