Fans Not In Favor Of Packers Potentially Adding Randy Moss

Packers Fans Voice Displeasure
Over Possible Trade For Moss

Packers Chair & CEO Bob Harlan said when reports first surfaced of the team potentially trading to acquire Raiders WR Randy Moss, he told GM Ted Thompson “‘the initial response [from fans was] not good.’ It has settled down a little bit since then. I’d say it’s maybe 65-35% anti” (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 3/13). ESPN’s Suzy Kolber noted “the crowd booed” when the idea of the Packers acquiring Moss was brought up over the weekend during Packers Fan Fest (“NFL Live,” 3/13). ESPN’s John Clayton reported Thompson talked to board members yesterday about a Moss trade, “but it wasn’t a main agenda item” (“SportsCenter,”, 3/13). In Milwaukee, Bob McGinn writes the subject “wasn’t even broached by Thompson at the monthly executive committee meeting until he was asked about it” (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 3/14).

COMMUNITY RELATIONS: ESPN’s Michael Wilbon noted the Packers are publicly held and wondered, “Do they have a responsibility to take into accounts these (fan) sentiments?” ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser: “They have a responsibility more than any other team because they’re publicly held, but they also hire professionals to run the team and you ought to let professionals do their job” (“PTI,” ESPN, 3/13).
