NFL Could Become Latest To Embrace User-Generated Content

NFL Network COO Kim Williams suggested that the league could “jump on the user-generated content bandwagon” by allowing fans to use “NFL game footage, music and ... voiceovers from NFL Films in their own homemade videos or mashups,” according to David Goetzl of MEDIAPOST. But Williams, speaking at the American Association of Advertising Agencies’ media conference last week, noted that the concept of having fans post videos on NFL.com is “merely in a discussion stage” at the league. Williams said that there is a “balancing act between copyright protection and potential marketing or revenue streams.” Williams: “I don’t think we want to forbid and restrict our fans from interacting with the NFL and its content and (extending) their avidity for the sport” (MEDIAPOST.com, 3/5).
