Maple Leafs Ice Outdoor Game Following Feasibility Study

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) has dropped the idea of the Maple Leafs playing an outdoor game after a feasibility study “showed that such a venture makes no sense either financially or logistically,” according to Paul Hunter of the TORONTO STAR. MLSE President & CEO Richard Peddie: “We could not get the costs (within reason). They were approaching a net loss of [C$1M].” Peddie noted that there would also be “revenue lost by Air Canada Centre restaurants and the sales of food and beverages within the building and then the price of insurance.” He added that the team “didn’t want to inconvenience their 154 suite holders who [would] have to sit in the stands” (TORONTO STAR, 3/6).
