Heinz Field Surface Ranks Among Worst, Will Not Be Replaced

Survey Of NFL Players Finds Heinz Field
One Of Worst Surfaces In League
Steelers Chair Dan Rooney said that there are “no plans to change the playing surface at Heinz Field, even though it ranked among the worst in the NFL in a survey of more than 1,500 players,” according to Scott Brown of the Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW. Rooney: “Our field is fine.” But Brown noted that of the 48 Steelers players who participated in the survey conducted by the NFLPA, 25 gave the playing surface a rating of “poor,” seven rated it as “good,” and none gave it a rating of “excellent.” The surface was voted second-worst among stadiums with grass field. Gillette Stadium was voted worst, but the survey was taken before the Patriots switched to synthetic grass (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 2/3). Qwest Field was rated as the top artificial surface, Raymond James Stadium was voted the top grass field and Giants Stadium was ranked the worst artificial playing surface (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 2/4).
