Dolphins Officially Announce Season-Ticket Price Increase

Dolphins Announce Season-Ticket
Price Increase For Coming Season

The Dolphins officially announced that season-ticket prices for lower-level seats next season will be $77-98 per game and that “many upper-level seats also will exceed $70,” according to Jeff Darlington of the MIAMI HERALD. But the team has expanded from seven price categories to 11, the cheapest of which is the highest section in the end zone for $39 per game. Dolphins President & COO Bryan Wiedmeier said that the team raised ticket prices to “keep local revenues in line with the NFL’s system.” Wiedmeier said that the Dolphins “decided years ago to implement an objective system that causes ticket prices to follow the league’s salary-cap increases.” Darlington noted as a result, the team’s success or failure “does not affect decisions in the pricing of tickets” (MIAMI HERALD, 2/24). The Dolphins said that prices on “approximately 24,000 tickets –- one-third of Dolphin Stadium’s capacity –-will not change.” Despite the increases, the Dolphins “expect season-ticket purchases to approach last year’s figure of 61,121, which was the second-highest in stadium history” (PALM BEACH POST, 2/24). Season-ticket holders are being charged for nine games instead of ten because the October 28 game against the Giants will be played in London (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 2/24).

BROWNS: In Akron, Patrick McManamon wrote the Browns have “resisted the pressure from others in the league to raise ticket prices. The cost will not go up this season.” Browns Owner Randy Lerner “does not believe that he should raise prices until the product on the field improves, if then.” McManamon noted the Browns ranked 29th in the league in average ticket cost last season and the club’s prices were “lowest in the AFC North” (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 2/25).
