Rutgers Linking Football Tickets, Parking To Donations

Rutgers Tying Football
Ticket Priority To Donations

Rutgers Univ., coming off an 11-2 season, has sold out its 22,000 season tickets for the upcoming season and has “started a waiting list, where spots cost $20,” according to Matthew Futterman of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. The school has also told supporters they will “have to pay hundreds of dollars more to keep their season tickets,” on top of the $240 ticket cost and $12 per game for parking. Fan Rich Karasiewicz, a season-ticket holder for eight years, said, “They couldn’t draw flies when I was buying tickets and going to the games. Now they’re saying the hell with people who have been supporting them through the years.” But Rutgers said that it is “merely enforcing a long-standing policy of linking seating to financial contributions.” Under the Rutgers Priority Points System, which “ensures the biggest financial supporters of the school get the best seats,” fans get five points for every year they have had season tickets and five points for every $25 they have donated to the university (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 2/24). Futterman today reports Rutgers for the first time “will also award parking spots according to the same Priority Points System” (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 2/27).
