Safeco Field Latest MLB Ballpark To Convert Suites To Club

Mariners Combining Eight Safeco Field
Suites Into Mega-Suite All-Star Club

The Mariners have joined the ranks of pro teams “de-emphasizing the traditional luxury boxes in favor of new alternatives” by turning eight luxury suites at Safeco Field into the “mega-suite” All-Star Club, according to David Andriesen of the SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER. Tickets to the suite, which seats 140, are sold on a season-ticket basis, but partial-season-ticket plans for as few as ten games are available and cost $100-125 per game. Mariners Exec VP/Business Operations Bob Aylward said, “What we were missing was the individual or the small company that doesn’t need to entertain 16 people in a suite. But they wanted more than just four season tickets in even the club level. ... This is sort of a luxury mid-class solution.” The Mariners claim the move “is not because of a lack of desire for luxury suites.” Aylward said, “There is still tremendous interest in luxury boxes. But what all ball clubs have to do is right-size it” (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 2/23). The All-Star Club has three rows of assigned seating “in an open-air terrace and then an indoor dining area and complimentary buffet.” Alcohol will be sold at a cash bar, and plasma TVs will be located throughout the indoor area (SEATTLE TIMES, 2/21).
