PBR Cancels First Of Four Tour Championship Rounds In OKC

PBR Cancels First Round Of U.S.
Smokeless Challenger Tour Championship

PBR COO Sean Gleason said that tonight’s first round of the U.S. Smokeless Challenger Tour Championship has been cancelled “because of logistical problems,” according to Ed Godfrey of the DAILY OKLAHOMAN. Originally, the $1M event was scheduled for four rounds at the Ford Center from Thursday-Sunday, but today’s session was cancelled and “ticket holders are being issued refunds.” Gleason said that PBR officials knew about last night’s Hornets game at the Ford Center when the event was scheduled last year, but they “thought there would be enough time to prepare the building” for tonight. But he said that the arena was “not going to be made available to the PBR as soon as they first thought” and “that, coupled with slow ticket sales for [tonight’s] performance, led to the cancellation.” Gleason said that at the time of the announcement, only “slightly more than 100 tickets had been sold to the general public.” To make up for the move, the PBR will hold a sponsor and fan appreciation party today at the Cox Center from 5:00-8:00pm CT where fans can meet and get autographs of PBR riders (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 2/14).
