Canadian Pacific Becomes Official Sponsor Of 2010 Games

Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) has been designated the official rail freight services provider of the 2010 Vancouver Games after signing a six-year, C$15M deal with VANOC that includes “plans to donate land, help with commuting and haul freight,” according to Todd Saelhof of the CALGARY SUN. While a financial donation “is part of the package,” CP President & CEO Fred Green said that the “vast majority — about 75% — of CP’s contribution is best described as ‘in-kind’ support.” The company also gains rights to Canadian athletes at the ’08 Beijing Games, Vancouver Games and 2012 London Games. VANOC CEO John Furlong said that CP is the fifth Alberta-based company to sign on and brings VANOC within C$125M of its goal of C$725M in Canadian sponsorship (CALGARY SUN, 1/25).
