Kansas Speedway Looking To
Put Brakes On Ticket Brokers

Kansas Speedway “wants Kansas lawmakers to stop ticket brokers from reselling its tickets,” saying that outlawing the resale of its tickets will “protect the public from price gouging.” Legislation proposed by the Speedway, which has not yet been formally introduced, “wouldn’t affect the resale of tickets to any other events or venues in the state” (Klepper & Wiebe, K.C. STAR, 1/12).

OPEN LATE: Officials of the future racetrack and casino at Pompano Park in Pompano Beach, Florida, want “special permission” to serve alcohol until 4:00am ET. Pompano Beach Mayor John Rayson said that the city must “create an exemption through a referendum, allowing voters to decide whether drinking can go past” 2:00am there (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 1/12).

REDEVELOPMENT: City of Irving (TX) officials said that they will build an “expansive urban district,” including hotels, civic buildings, residences and a park at the site of Texas Stadium after the Cowboys move to Arlington in ’09. The project, worth an estimated $2B, is expected to be completed by 2022, with the first phase scheduled to be completed by 2012 (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 1/12).
