Aspen Skiing Taps Salomon North America To Outfit Employees

Aspen Skiing Co. (Skico) agreed to a four-year contract with Salomon North America to “design and manufacturer uniforms for about 2,700 employees,” according to Scott Condon of the ASPEN TIMES. Skico employees have worn RLX Polo Sport, a Polo Ralph Lauren brand, for the past six years. The change teams Skico with a company “well-known in the ski industry and widely respected for its skis, bindings and snowboards rather than one best-known in the fashion world.” Salomon President Tom Berry said Aspen “had been pigeonholed as a Gucci resort.” Berry said that Skico has “changed the resort’s image back to the core of skiing.” Condon notes Aspen is the “only major resort being outfitted by Salomon” (ASPEN TIMES, 12/14).

UTAH SKIING: In Salt Lake City, Mike Gorrell reports the Utah Board of Tourism Development is spending $350,000 to “keep ski-rival Colorado from snatching away” its sponsorship of the 35-state tour for Warren Miller’s latest sports film. The board “pledged to extend the sponsorship agreement to a third year, provided the Utah Legislature appropriates money next session” (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 12/15).
