SETTLING DOWN: Miami city commissioners by a 3-2 vote approved a $750,000 settlement with Wisconsin-based Hammes Co., which the city hired to oversee Orange Bowl renovations. Miami hired Hammes last year “but later dropped the company and Hammes sued in response.” The city claimed that Hammes “misled it into signing a contract with a Hammes subsidiary in Florida” (MIAMI HERALD, 11/10).
GIVE ME A SIGN: Several universities are trading in traditional rotating signs at their basketball arenas for digital signage through a partnership between Van Wagner Sports Group and Nebraska-based SignCo. The new signs, which use DLP technology, provide HD-quality video. Schools switching to digital signs for the ’06-07 season include Nebraska, USC, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Michigan State, Texas A&M and Texas Tech (THE DAILY).
