Nike Taps Sears-Kmart VP For Global Online Sales Post

Nike will name Sears-Kmart Customer Direct VP & GM CHRIS SHIMOJIMA to the newly-created position of VP/Global E-Commerce, “signaling a drive to rapidly expand online sales at a company that has primarily relied on brick-and-mortar retail outlets,” according to Stephanie Kang of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. Nike President & CEO MARK PARKER said that the appointment “signaled Nike’s commitment to e-commerce.” Parker: “I see tremendous commercial opportunity here if we could bring more focus to it, develop the systems needed, and develop consumer connection. ... Providing more (online) choice for consumers and easy access to that choice is critical.” But Parker noted that “the goal isn’t to usurp [Nike’s] retail partners.” Parker: “Developing our ability to be a better online retailer and raising consumers’ experience with Nike will help our other online retail partners” (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/24).
