Danbury Mint Offering “Yankees Victory Plane” Ornament

A new “Yankees Victory Plane” Christmas ornament, licensed by MLB and bearing the Yankees logo, features Santa Claus flying a plane, according to Kate Sheehy of the N.Y. POST. The ornament’s release comes in the wake of Yankees P Cory Lidle being killed when his plane crashed into an Upper East Side high-rise on October 11. MLB Senior VP/PR Rich Levin: “The timing’s unfortunate. I’m sure this was done well before the Cory Lidle incident.” Yankees season-ticket holder Denis Guerin added, “I don’t think it was intentional. It’s just a terrible mistake and terrible coincidence.” A Yankees spokesperson said, “I’m not going to comment on it at all because it has nothing to do with us, it didn’t originate with us.” Danbury Mint in Norwalk, Connecticut, the company selling the ornaments, did not return calls seeking comment, but a woman in the sales department said the ornament was “developed probably over a year ago” (N.Y.
