Eisco Supplies All MLB Teams With Uniform-Cleaning Products
|
New Jersey-based Eisco, a company with sales of $1.5M and a staff of seven, “sells uniform-cleaning products to every [MLB] team and about 20% of the minors,” according to Gwendolyn Bounds of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. A cold call from the Phillies, who were “desperate for a powerful cleaning agent to cull stains from their players’ uniforms,” shifted the company’s direction. Eisco exec Brad Singer: “Getting into the major-league business was a fluke. We thought it would be neat and it snowballed.” Singer said that he is beginning to sell his products to MLS and to lacrosse and football teams. Bounds notes 10% of the company’s sales are directly for sporting goods-related products such as the uniform cleaners and helmet-disinfectant spray, and Singer estimates that revenue will “double in five years, mostly because of this category.” Eisco’s Clubhouse Kit products are “sold in small quantities online via sports specialists” such as Dick’s, Modell’s and Sports Authority and on the company’s Web site. But “getting into the bricks-and-mortar side of these retailers has been more difficult” because consumers “aren’t necessarily thinking about laundry while shopping in such stores.” Singer said that he “believes his products need to be stocked alongside the uniforms and helmets to build awareness” (
