Michigan Gubernatorial Candidates Vie For Tigers Fans’ Votes

Granholm (l) And DeVos
Stumping For Tigers Fans’ Votes
Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos stood outside Comerica Park on Saturday before Game One of the Cardinals-Tigers World Series with his wife and their four children “greeting Tigers fans” and “handing out T-shirts bearing his name,” according to Kathleen Gray of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. On the shirts, the D in DeVos “had been transformed into the Old English D that also graces the uniforms” of the Tigers. DeVos campaign spokesperson John Truscott said of the media’s focus on the Tigers: “It’s impossible to break through with any message. It’s all Tigers all the time. Not that that’s a bad thing.” Meanwhile, Gray noted Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm “mentions the Tigers at almost every stop.” Granholm “wore a Brandon Inge jersey during the annual Labor Day parade and appeared at a rally Saturday” with Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and the Tigers’ mascot, Paws (FREE PRESS, 10/22).
