Aqua Man: Epcor Utilities The Latest To Sign For 2010 Games
Edmonton-based power and water supplier Epcor Utilities has signed on as an official supplier of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and Paralympics, pledging cash for Canadian athletes in the range of C$3-15M, according to Gordon Jaremko of the EDMONTON JOURNAL. The deal also includes Canadian Olympic team supplier rights for the ’08 Beijing Games and the 2012 London Games. Programs are expected to range from “help for beginners to teaming up with [GE] on a fundraising dinner series known as gold-medal plates, expected to raise [C$3M] for Olympic contenders by 2010.” However, the contribution “will not make Epcor a star” of the Games. Epcor Exec VP Brian Vaasjo said, “You won’t see our name plastered all over the place at the Olympics.” Vaasjo added that the company will use the Olympic marks “in a variety of ways such as on company business cards and vehicles” (EDMONTON JOURNAL, 10/17). Seven cities will host Gold Medal Plates dinners, beginning tonight in Halifax, with attendees paying C$256 per person (CP, 10/17).
