Lease Extension Could Keep A’s At McAfee Coliseum Past 2010

The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority “approved a lease extension Friday” that could keep the A’s at McAfee Coliseum through at least 2010, according to Christopher Heredia of the S.F. CHRONICLE. The lease extension, which is subject to approval by the Oakland City Council, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and the A’s, gives the team the right to move before 2010 if they have a new ballpark in Alameda County, but the team would “still have to pay its lease at the Coliseum through 2010, plus $250,000.” After 2010, the team has the option to renew its lease “on a year-to-year basis through 2013.” The deal calls for the team to pay $600,000 next year and $750,000 a year for the following three years. The A’s paid $550,000 this year. Under the options to extend the lease, the A’s would pay $1.2M in 2011, $1M in 2012 and $800,000 in 2013. The team would keep all revenue from stadium concessions (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/14). The team’s current lease runs through 2007, with year-to-year options through 2010 (CONTRA COSTA TIMES, 10/13).
