Police Raid: Beckham Replaced As Sunglass Endorser

Police sunglasses let its endorsement deal with Real Madrid MF David Beckham expire and has replaced him with actor Antonio Banderas, according to Richard Simpson of the London DAILY MAIL. The company had a six-year deal with Beckham worth US$1.86M annually, but sources said that he “became ‘less of a commodity’ after the World Cup.” However, a source at Police said, “The contract was due to end on September 15. But in the months running up to that, there were issues over the World Cup and the resulting fall-out for David. The decision to go for a more worldwide-appeal personality came in the light of that.” Beckham is no longer on England’s national team, and sources close to the player said, “David chose not to renew the contract. It was never a big payer anyway. It prevented him from doing other things -– launching his own range of sunglasses, for example” (London DAILY MAIL, 10/12).
