NFL Looking Into Trademark Violations Against Dating Site
Published August 21, 2006
Online dating site eHarmony.com aired a spot this weekend that drew the attention of the NFL for possible trademark violations. In the ad, Shannon and L.J. discuss how they met through eHarmony and built a relationship despite their affinities for two rival football teams. They use the words “Steelers” and “Browns” during the spot. eHarmony’s ad campaign regularly features Chair & co-Founder Dr. Neil Clark Warren and clients, who stand in front of a white background boasting the site’s “success stories.” NFL Dir of Corporate Communications Brian McCarthy said the company has no relationship with the league, and added, “Looks like they will soon have another success story to tout a match between a member of our legal department and the company’s.” eHarmony and its ad agency, Ocean Media, did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
