KINGS: The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 last night to formally approve the two-part advisory vote on funding for a new arena for the NBA Kings, but “drafting the written ‘term sheet’ behind closed doors took more time than expected.” Supervisor Roger Dickinson said, “I’m surprised it was as difficult as it turned out to be.” Sacramento County Economic Development Dir Paul Hahn said that the document “fleshed out the original deal points, but did not make any real changes” (SACRAMENTO BEE, 8/3).
NOTES: The Oklahoma City Council voted to spend $3.2M on renovations, security upgrades and other amenities at the Ford Center and Cox Convention Center “in anticipation of next season’s NBA and college basketball games.” The Ford Center will host next year’s Big 12 men’s basketball tournament and 35 Hornets games, while the Convention Center will host the ’07 Big 12 women’s basketball tournament (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 8/2)....Former Univ. of Minnesota Board of Regents Chair David Metzen withdrew as a finalist for the Exec Dir position of the Minnesota Ballpark Authority, which will oversee the new Twins facility in downtown Minneapolis (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 8/3).
GOLF NOTES: PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is being purchased by Chicago-based Walton Street Capital, which will take over golf and hotel operations effective August 16. The sale price was not disclosed, but there is “speculation that landing the [PGA Tour] Honda Classic golf tournament, which starts a six-year run early next year, helped raise the price” (PALM BEACH POST, 8/3)....The PGA Tour Buick Open and Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club agreed on a four-year contract extension that will keep the event there through 2010 (DETROIT NEWS, 8/3).
