Missouri Politician Uses MLB Cardinals’ Marks On Invite

Missouri state Sen. John Loudon sent out e-mail invitations to a campaign fundraiser at Busch Stadium “that duplicated Cardinals baseball tickets — including the team’s logo and images of the players,” according to Jo Mannies of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Cardinals Dir of Governmental Affairs & Special Projects Ron Watermon said that “besides violating the team’s trademark protections, the invitation improperly ‘morphed’ the image” of P Chris Carpenter into that of Loudon. Watermon: “We were surprised, and we took steps to correct it.” The $250-a-person fundraiser will still be held in a supporter's box at Busch Stadium. Watermon: “The senator has been a good friend of ours. ... No one over here is angry, but they should have gotten our permission.” Watermon added that a “key concern was that some Republicans might interpret the invitations as an endorsement of Loudon” (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 7/11).
