Power Shots: SI.com Lets Writers Play Commissioner For A Day

SI.com on Thursday had its beat writers for the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, college football, college basketball, tennis, and golf play the role of Commissioner for a Day, where they each suggested ten changes for the properties. Here is a sampling:

NFL: Peter King wrote he would “take NFL Sunday Ticket off the dish and put it on digital cable.”

MLB: Tom Verducci would demand every MLB team “spend at least 80[%] of the league average payroll over any three-year period.”

NHL: Michael Farber would “fire the advertising agency [Conductor] that came up with” the My NHL and My Stanley Cup ad campaigns.

NBA: Jack McCallum would schedule doubleheaders with the NBA and NBA D-League.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Stewart Mandel would create the role of commissioner to oversee college football.

COLLEGE HOOPS: Seth Davis would prohibit shoe deals for college basketball coaches.

TENNIS: Jon Wertheim would create an All-Star weekend for tennis.

GOLF: Gary Van Sickle would “merge” the LPGA and Champions Tour once a year for an annual event (SI.com, 7/6).
