Flyers Raising Ticket Prices By Nearly 5% Across The Board

The Flyers are raising ticket prices for the ’06-07 season by nearly 5% across the board, according to Ed Barkowitz of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS. Lower-level season tickets will increase from $69 per game to $73, with season tickets in the mezzanine level increasing by about $2 per seat. Comcast-Spectator President & COO Peter Luukko said, “The way we’re looking at it is, it’s really an inflationary increase. The cost of doing business is going up all across the operation, whether it’s sales, marketing, travel –- costs have gone up very high due to the price of fuel oil.” Barkowitz notes Team Marketing Report claims the Flyers had the highest average ticket prices in the NHL this year with $54.81. But the team “disputes that and instead points to a league report that had the Flyers ranked nine spots lower.” Flyers VP/Marketing & Communications Shawn Tilger said, “We’re in the middle third. ... We’re only bringing ticket prices back to where they were [before the lockout]. They came down 5[%] and they went up 5” (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 6/16).

MORE CHANGES COMING: Luukko said that “other improvements are in store” for the Wachovia Center, including “renovated suites ... and a new ticket policy marketed” under Comcast Spectator subsidiary New Era Tickets. The change would result in “lower service charges for tickets to ‘lower-price events’” including AHL Philadelphia Phantoms games. Luukko added that the new tickets “eventually will come with ‘store-value’ credits that can be swiped at concession stands and used like a credit card” (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 6/16).
