COLLEGE HOOPS: CBS’ Saturday coverage of the Conference USA final was the lowest-rated ever. CBS’ Iowa-Michigan State Big Ten semifinal coverage on Saturday was down 30.4% from a 2.3/6 for Illinois-Minnesota last year and was the lowest-rated Big Ten semifinal since a 1.5/5 for Illinois-Purdue in ’97. The Ohio State-Indiana semifinal in the late window was down 4.5% from a 2.2/5 for Wisconsin-Iowa last year. The net’s Sunday coverage of the Iowa-Ohio State championship was down 13.3% from a 3.0/6 for Illinois-Wisconsin last year. CBS’ UCLA-California Pac-10 Championship on Saturday was the lowest-rated Pac-10 final since the event premiered on CBS in ’02. This year’s final was down 13.0% from a 2.3/5 for Washington-Arizona last year. CBS’ coverage on Sunday of the Florida-South Carolina SEC Championship was down 40.0% from a 2.5/6 for Florida-Kentucky in ’05 and was the lowest-rated SEC final since the event premiered on CBS in ’96 (THE DAILY).

WEEKEND TV: Fox’ coverage of the NASCAR Nextel Cup UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 was down 3.1% from a 6.4/14 in ’05, but up 6.9% from a 5.8/14 in ’04....ABC’s coverage of Cavaliers-Heat in the early window on Sunday was up 28.6% from a 1.4/4 for Mavericks-T’Wolves last year, while regional NBA coverage in the late window was up 11.1% from a 1.8/4 for Rockets-Kings in ’05....NBC posted its lowest PGA Tour Honda Classic two-day average Nielsen rating ever. Third-round coverage was down 11.8% from a 1.7/4 last year, while final-round coverage was down 12.0% from a 2.5/6. Both rounds were the lowest-rated ever for the event....NBC’s week six AFL coverage was down 10.0% from a 0.9/2 for the comparable week last year (THE DAILY).

WBC: Through eight World Baseball Classic games, ESPN is averaging a 0.8/ (730,000) cable rating. Through 19 games, ESPN2 is averaging a 0.6/ (522,000). ESPN’s coverage of four live games is averaging a 1.0/ (930,000), while ESPN2’s coverage of 10 live games is averaging a 0.8/ (762,000). The U.S.’ loss to Korea, which started at 1:00am ET on tape delay, posted a 0.4 on ESPN2 (THE DAILY).

NOTES: ESPN’s premiere of the EOE documentary “Through the Fire” on Sunday from 8:00-10:00pm ET averaged a 1.3 rating (MULTICHANNEL.com, 3/14)....HBO’s season premiere of “The Sopranos” last Sunday from 9:00pm-10:00pm drew a 19.2/25 cable rating and 9.5 million viewers, a 21.5% drop from the 12.1 million viewers who watched the previous season premiere in ’04 (MULTICHANNEL.com, 3/14).
