MLS Enters Deal To Build Stadium In South Jersey
Published March 17, 2006
MLS will announce on Monday that it has entered into an exclusive negotiating period with Rowan Univ. to construct a soccer-specific stadium as part of its west campus development, industry insiders said Friday. MLS officials would not confirm that but did say they will be present for Monday’s announcement. Despite news that the university is moving forward with the construction of a soccer-specific stadium, an MLS expansion or relocated team is not guaranteed at this point in time. “It’s the first step in a very long process,” an industry source said. The stadium’s completion date is tentatively scheduled for ‘09, at which point an MLS team could begin play in Glassboro, New Jersey, located 23 miles from Philadelphia.
