Steelers Submit Plan To Add Club Seating To Heinz Field

The Steelers have submitted plans to add a new club section to the north end of Heinz Field for the ’06 season that would contain 700 seats and 20,000 square feet of enclosed space. The new seats would be offered to people on the season-ticket waiting list and current season-ticket holders who have requested club seats. The new seats will carry a PSL and be priced similarly to current club seats. Construction would cost around $4M (Steelers). In Pittsburgh, Andrew Conte reports the Pittsburgh & Allegheny County Sports & Exhibition Authority, under the terms of its lease agreement with the team, “could pay up to two-thirds of the cost,” with the team paying remaining third (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 3/17).

CLUB PRICES: In Pittsburgh, Mark Belko reports club seats at Heinz Field next season will be priced $153-206 per game, an increase of 2.68-3% over last season. There are no price increases for other seats. Steelers President Art Rooney said that club seating prices at Heinz Field “had fallen into the lower half of those in the NFL, and that the team needed the adjustment to ‘keep our prices somewhat competitive with others in the league.’” He added that the new CBA “puts additional pressure on mid- to lower-revenue teams like the Steelers to raise money,” but “it was the demand for the seats that was the main factor in the decision to install more” (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 3/17).
