Timeline For Entertainment District Lagging Behind Nationals Ballpark

In DC, Nakamura & Hedgpeth in a front-page piece report developers will need “more than two years to complete just the initial building plans” for the proposed entertainment district surrounding the Nationals new ballpark. Western Development Chair Herbert Miller, whose company is one of four developers, said, “Our goal is spring ’09 to have the first phases done. ... To even get this done in three years would be pretty impressive, but that’s our goal” (WASHINGTON POST, 3/17).

TWIN BILLING: In St. Paul, Charley Walters reports a “notion floating around” the Minnesota Legislature is that Vikings Owner Zygi Wilf and Twins Owner Carl Pohlad “might be inclined to assist funding for a [Univ. of Minnesota] football stadium if their respective stadium proposals could get approval” (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 3/17).

RACING: Magna Entertainment Corp. is in “serious” talks to sell its 40% stake in Santa Anita racetrack (CP, 3/17)....Texas Motor Speedway will add two more large video screens to the backstretch for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Samsung/RadioShack 500 race weekend April 6-9 (TMS).
