NBC’s Olympics coverage is off to a modest start with just a 12.8/21 Nielsen rating for Friday night’s Opening Ceremony, and prospects for the next two weeks do not look much better. Reviews for NBC are mixed, with some critics missing the lighter approach of Katie Couric that was replaced by a more serious Brian Williams. Shaun White’s Gold was one bright spot for the U.S. team over the weekend, as Michelle Kwan withdrew, men failed to medal in the downhill and Apolo Anton Ohno stumbled in the 1500-meter short-track semifinals. Logistically, with some exceptions, things appear to be moving smoothly in Turin.
