Google To Offer Video Downloads From CBS, NBA

Google plans to announce at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week that it will begin to allow consumers “to buy videos from major content partners,” including CBS and the NBA, on the company’s Web site, according to sources cited by Delaney & Wingfield of the WALL STREET JOURNAL. Google will also launch a downloadable software package that “could heighten Google’s competition with” Microsoft. The move to allow video downloads “could place Google in competition with other emerging powers in Internet distribution of video” like Apple Computer. A CBS spokesperson declined to comment, and an NBA spokesperson could not be reached (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 1/5).
