Newsmakers: Morgan Pressel Gets Her Wish

THE DAILY each Friday offers our take on the performances over the past week of some people and entities in sports business. Here are this week’s newsmakers:

Pressel Looking Forward To
LPGA Rookie Season In ‘06
WIN: MORGAN PRESSEL –- Seventeen-year-old golfing phenom successfully lobbies new LPGA Commissioner CAROLYN BIVENS to reverse TY VOTAW’s decision and grant her full membership on tour. She follows that up the very next day with an exclusive club deal with Callaway.

LOSE: MATT MILLEN -- Lions President & CEO is the focus of an organized fan protest that includes a march outside Ford Field before Sunday’s loss to the Bengals, where some fans actually donned the colors of the visiting team. While Millen admits the scene was “embarrassing,” fans are acutely aware of the direction of the franchise since the Fords put Millen in charge.

DRAW: YANKEES
–- Swoop in and grab JOHNNY DAMON, the face of the Red Sox, from their archrival, and also put themselves back on the back pages. But a $34M luxury tax bill arrives in the mail, and one wonders if this latest move will lead to where the moves of the past five offseasons have led –- no World Series title.
