SMI has approved cash bonuses totaling $3.22M to its top execs for ’05. CEO BRUTON SMITH led the bonuses with $1.35M, up from $1M last year. President HUMPY WHEELER earned in a $650,000 bonus, up from $550,000 in ’04. Treasurer WILLIAM BROOKS received $600,000, up from $200,000 last year (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/22).

BLUE MOON: Reserve Entertainment Group (REG) is developing “PEOPLE’S CHOICE,” a movie script “based on the friendship” between former Dodgers teammates PEE WEE REESE and JACKIE ROBINSON. The script was written by Reese’s son, MARK REESE. LAMONT CAIN of World Premiere Pictures is producing along with REG and SUSAN WRIGHT. DENISE PINCKLEY and ALAN BATES are co-producing. Reese previously produced the ESPN series “THE BROOKLYN DODGERS -- AMERICA’S TEAM” (DAILY VARIETY, 12/23).

Int’l Ski Federation Fines Miller
For Refusing Equipment Test
WINTER WONDERLAND: The INT’L SKI FEDERATION fined U.S. Olympic skier BODE MILLER $762 for “refusing to submit to routine equipment testing at an Alpine World Cup slalom race.” Miller responded by “suggesting that he might quit the circuit.” Miller: “There’s no logic to these rules. I don’t even want to participate if it’s going to be like this” (N.Y. TIMES, 12/23)....Ice dancers TANITH BELBIN and MAXIM ZAVOZIN will be able to compete for the U.S. at the TURIN GAMES after the U.S. House passed an amendment to a bill that “decreases the waiting period for ‘aliens of extraordinary ability’ who began seeking U.S. citizenship before a change in the law expedited the process.” U.S. Sen. CARL LEVIN (D-MI) authored the provision (WASHINGTON POST, 12/23).

MELLOW YELLOW: The PAN-MASSACHUSETTS CHALLENGE auctioned one of LANCE ARMSTRONG’s yellow jerseys worn during his ’05 Tour de France victory for a “record setting $240,000.” The money goes to cancer research and treatment at the JIMMY FUND. Armstrong gave the jersey to Bristol- Myers Squibb CEO PETER DOLAN, who donated it for auction (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/23). Bristol-Myers Squibb is one of Armstrong’s sponsors (THE DAILY).
