The Champ Car World Series will no longer serve as the sanctioning body of the Trans-Am Series, ending a two-year affiliation. Sports Car Club of America Chair Gary Pitts, whose organization owns the rights to series, said it will explore other sanctioning options, including “licensing the name out to another organization for a racing series or utilizing the name ourselves” (CP, 12/13).

Ghana Looking To Land Adu For ’06 World Cup Team

COUNTRY SONG: Ratomir Dujkovic, who coaches the men’s national soccer team in Ghana, said that he will “try to persuade” DC United F Freddy Adu to play for his native Ghana at the ’06 FIFA World Cup. FIFA regulations allow players to switch nationalities before the age of 21 “if they have played at the youth level for one country and want to play at the senior international level for another country.” Adu and his family moved from Ghana to the U.S. when he was eight (N.Y. TIMES, 12/13).

ANYWHERE BUT HERE? In San Diego, Jerry Magee reports IMG, in addition to trying to sell the Pacific Life Open “to interests that would relocate the event to China,” is “talking to persons who would acquire the tournament and present it in the Middle East.” The USTA has “made an investment in the event meant to keep it in this country,” and USTA Chair & CEO Franklin Johnson said, “I hope we’re there. We should know in a couple of weeks” (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 12/13).
