Largent Gives Keynote Address On Last Day Of Conference

Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association President & CEO Steve Largent delivered the keynote address yesterday at the 7th Annual Street & Smith's/Players Inc Sports Media & Technology conference in N.Y. Largent, on advertising to mobile customers: “The idea that somebody is going to be able to access wireless customers whenever and whatever way they want to advertise or to spam is not going to happen. There will be ways for companies to advertise and to reach out and touch our customers, but it is not going to be done in the same way that the Internet has been treated.” Largent, on filters for mobile phones: “We are going to guarantee to our customers that if they want a filter on the Internet that would filter out all the bad stuff that can come with the Internet, they’re going to have the capability on their mobile device.” Largent said of the future of the wireless industry, “We are going to see more and more competition from cable companies. Just the other week, one of our major companies, Sprint Nextel, signed a deal partnering with a number of cable companies. ... Those kinds of partnerships are going to deliver more and better services to customers.”
