Jets, Queens Officials Meeting With Local Attractions

Jets Senior Manager of Strategic Planning Marissa Shorenstein said Jets President Jay Cross and Queens Borough President Helen Marshall met last week with representatives of the Queens Botanical Gardens, New York Hall of Science, Queens Museum, Queens Zoo and Queens Theatre in the Park to “discuss ways that a new football and soccer stadium could complement” existing cultural facilities near the proposed site in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, according to Donald Bertrand of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Shorenstein added that exhibits on the history of sports or science of sports “were some of the marketing ideas that were discussed as possible museum attractions for football fans.” Hall of Science Exec Dir Alan Friedman said, “With the combination of a new Mets stadium and a new Jets stadium, suddenly we become the sports center of New York and I think this will do the trick.” Marshall: “We cannot build a stadium without a consensus. We have to move forward together” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/13).
