ESPN Adding DC Stop
To “50 States 50 Days” Tour
ESPN’s SportsCenter has formally added DC to its “50 States 50 Days” series. Linda Cohn will host the segments on Labor Day, September 5, from the west side of the Capitol Reflecting Pool. That afternoon’s Marlins-Nationals game will be televised on the network. A number of DC-area politicians and personalities complained to the network for not originally including the District on its tour of the States, including Mayor Anthony Williams and Jesse Jackson, who even called ESPN Exec VP/Programming & Production Mark Shapiro (THE DAILY)....Fox Soccer Channel has signed a multi-year deal to broadcast two games from Italy’s Serie A per week and is near an agreement with the NCAA to air an exclusive weekly men’s college game. The net will also telecast all three opening-round U.S. games from the U-17 world championships, as well as the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. All except the U.S. game on September 17 will air live (MULTICHANNELNEWS.com 8/15).
