Waste Management Deal Includes About $2M In Ad Commitments

Waste Management has inked a three-year sponsorship deal with the PGA Tour and Champions Tour, becoming the official environmental waste services provider of both tours (PGA Tour). SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL’s Noah Liberman reports Waste Management’s deal also includes rights to the Nationwide Tour. While terms were not disclosed, Liberman writes sponsorships “with strong media and hospitality components typically run in the mid-seven figures annually.” The agreement includes about $2M “in ad commitments on PGA Tour broadcasts, which is part of Waste Management’s first-ever national” TV and print campaign beginning in September that is estimated to cost around $20M, about $4M will be allocated to sports. Waste Management anticipates that the deal “will give it an opportunity to take on more PGA Tour events as clients.” It now services about one-third of all PGA Tour, Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour events, and Waste Management Senior VP/Marketing Curt Knapp said that the company now has the “right to match competitors’ bids at many tour venues” (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/11 issue).
