For St. Pete’s Sake: Champ Car Eyes Return To City

The Champ Car World Series is looking to hold its season-opening race in St. Petersburg in conjunction with the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) 12 Hours of Sebring in March, according to the AP. Champ Car last raced in St. Pete in February ’03, “but abandoned the venue because of a litany of financial and logistical issues and the city’s interest” in IRL. The IRL held the first Honda Grand Prix of St. Pete on April 3. Champ Car and the ALMS “are discussing running several doubleheader weekends involving different promoters” (AP, 7/12).
