No Horseplay: Pistons Unveil New Primary, Secondary Logos

The Pistons have introduced new primary and secondary logos for the ’05-06 season, eliminating any horse representation. The primary logo will be used at center court at The Palace of Auburn Hills, while the secondary logo will appear on the team’s uniform shorts (Pistons). Palace Sports & Entertainment Dir of Strategic Communications David Wieme said, “There really is no reason for the timing of doing this per se. We just felt it was a good evolution of the Pistons logo. We think it honors the old and the new of Pistons history” (DETROIT NEWS, 7/12). Pistons execs indicated Hooper, the team’s mascot since ’96, will remain. A petition drive that collected 5,000 signatures “swayed the team to keep the horse mascot” (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 7/12).
