MULTICHANNEL NEWS’ R. Thomas Umstead notes that with the Bobcats shuttering C-SET, the team’s games next season “would most likely end up on FSN South.” FSN President Bob Thompson “wouldn’t rule out either splitting the network, or creating another [RSN] in the market to accommodate the team.” Thompson: “That is one of the markets that we’ve considered (for a new network).” Time Warner Cable said that they are “currently in discussions with the Bobcats about carrying future games, but would not say if they are entertaining the possibility of creating a stand-alone sports network.” Umstead noted another “likely suitor is MASN,” but it is unclear whether the network “would be able to extend its reach into both North and South Carolina” (MULTICHANNEL NEWS, 7/4 issue).

COVER GIRLS: The cover story in The Hockey News’ July issue looks into how the families of NHLers “were affected by the lockout.” The cover features the wives of four NHLers wearing hockey jerseys and “posed similar to the now-famous Desperate Housewives cover of the May edition of Vanity Fair.” The cover reads, “Hockey’s Desperate Housewives? Hardly! How the much better halves survived the NHL lockout.” Featured on the cover are: Angelica Bridges, wife of Canadiens D Sheldon Souray; Stacia Robitaille, wife of Kings LW Luc Robitaille; Brandy Blake, wife of Avalanche D Rob Blake; and Dina Arnott, wife of Stars C Jason Arnott (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 7/3).

AIR BORN: OLN, which holds the U.S TV rights to the Tour de France, and JetBlue Airways, which features DirecTV on all flights, is again offering in-flight coverage of the Tour de France to all passengers. The airline this month is also waiving its $50 fee for checking bicycles (JetBlue).
