Neenah, Wisconsin-based Bergstrom Corp. Chair & CEO
JOHN BERGSTROM and
Green Bay-based American Food Groups Owner & CEO
CARL KUEHNE have been
elected to the seven-member Exec Committee of the Packers. Bergstrom and Kuehne
replace
DR. DON HARDEN and
JOHN UNDERWOOD, members of the Exec Committee
since ’85 and ’90, respectively, who have reached age 70, the mandatory retirement
age under the Packers’ bylaws. Underwood will continue to serve as special counsel
to the Exec Committee and, at the request of NFL Commissioner
PAUL TAGLIABUE,
will continue his appointment to the Special Committee on League Economics. Underwood’s
continued NFL committee participation, along with that of Packers President
BOB
HARLAN (Management Council Exec Committee), Exec VP & COO
JOHN JONES
(Stadium Committee) and coach
MIKE SHERMAN (Competition Committee), make
the Packers the only team with representation on four key NFL committees.
LARRY
WEYERS, who joined the Exec Committee last year, was elected to replace Underwood
as Treasurer (
Packers). In Green Bay, Richard Ryman writes Jones “is in
line to replace Harlan” as President, and notes Weyers “was named to the Executive
Committee a year in advance of taking over as team treasurer so he could work
with” Underwood (
GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 5/19).
GOLD SEAL: In a separate piece, Ryman notes Bergstrom serves as Packers
Corporate Marketing Committee Chair and Marquette Univ. Board of Trustees Chair,
the latter of which is overseeing Marquette’s nickname situation. Bergstrom Corp.
owns and operates 23 auto dealerships –- “for which Packers [QB]
BRETT FAVRE
is a” spokesperson (
GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 5/19). Harlan, a Marquette
alumnus, said of naming Bergstrom to the Exec Committee in the wake of the Marquette
nickname ordeal, “First of all, he was selected before that even occurred. But
that wouldn’t have swayed me one bit” (
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 5/19).
