Turnstile Tracker: MLS Seeing Fewer Fans At The Fields

The following presents MLS attendance figures through May 16. League-wide average
attendance is down 8.1% from ’04. The Fire has the largest attendance gains from
last season, up 109.4% after three games in ’05.
NOTE: NA = Both Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake are new teams in ’05 (THE DAILY).
ON THE ROAD: In Denver, Pat Rooney noted that while Chivas USA “were hoping to become a top road attraction and draw Hispanic fans to stadiums across the country,” the team has drawn “average crowds” on the road. Meanwhile, Real Salt Lake has drawn nearly 15,000 fans for road games (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 5/14).
