In this week’s SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, Terry Lefton reports Octagon promoted WOODY THOMPSON to Exec VP where he will head the company’s Connecticut-based corporate consulting group. Meanwhile, MLB promoted Senior Account Exec JEREMY COHEN to Dir, overseeing marketing partnerships in the corporate sales and marketing division. Also, ERIC HANDLER is leaving CSTV for the YES Network for a “similar role” as Dir of Communications. Elsewhere, PETER CAPARIS has left SCOTT BORAS’ Impact Marketing and founded the Caparis Group, with his first client being the Boys Club. In addition, Boston Univ. named BECKY COLLET Associate AD for Marketing Communications (SBJ, 5/16 issue).

EXECS: BOCOG named SUN WEIDE co-Deputy Dir of Media & Communications. Weide was previously Press Chief for the Chinese Embassy in DC (AROUND THE RINGS, 5/13 issue)....SMG named FRANK LAPSLEY GM of the Cabarrus Arena & Event Center in Concord, North Carolina. Lapsley was previously Dir of Operations at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut (SMG)....Central Illinois Arena Management (CIAM) named JIM APPIO Dir of Operations at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Illinois. Appio was previously in a similar position with Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas (CIAM)....Clear Channel Entertainment Properties named former Bonham Group VP/Sponsorship Sales CHRIS FOY, MSG Properties Account Exec ANDY PELKON and JIM MCDONALD to its sales staff. McDonald has previously served as a Turner Sports Sales Exec, as well as U.S. Paralympics CMO (Noah Liberman, SBJ, 5/16 issue).
