COACH BARTER: Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert, on whether F LeBron James would have any input into the hiring of a new coach and GM: “LeBron will be asked his opinion, but he will not make the final decision. It would be unfair to burden LeBron or any player with the responsibility if being the one to choose the head coach or GM. ... It would set a very dangerous precedent to give any decisionmaking on these things to any player” (AP, 5/3).
NASH FLOW: Suns President Rick Welts said that season-ticket holders are renewing at a 96% rate and the team has received deposits on 2,000 new season tickets for the ’05-06 season. The Suns season-ticket base this season was around 9,500 and Welts said that the Suns “hope to get the total back up to more than 12,000” (Mike Tulumello, EAST VALLEY TRIBUNE, 5/3).
